“Hi Sarah, Amy here. Can you just measure to check that the yurt seating 130 wedding guests will fit on the camp site OK?”
That question came pretty early on in preparations for Amy and Chris’s wedding celebration here at Graig Wen. We’ve had marquees, tipis and scout tents here but never a yurt seating 130 people. A bit of scurrying around with a very long tape measure and yes, happily we could confirm that the mega yurt would fit neatly on the top camp site!
The Thursday before the big day a couple of weeks ago, the folk who built the yurt came along to put it up. High winds were forecast for the Friday evening so they gave us a full safety briefing. Amy and Chris plus family and friends spent the day making the yurt and table decorations look stunning and on Friday night we battened down the hatches as the storm hit.
As the wind speed crept up and rain lashed the canvas, we kept a close eye on the fixings, but the yurt stayed strong and dry and by Saturday morning the sun had come out.
While Amy and Chris made their vows at the church in Dolgellau (preceded by sandwiches and a fortifying pint of Snowdonia ale in the Torrent Walk pub!), Go Greengages caterers were cooking up a feast. The happy couple returned to Graig Wen in a gorgeous vintage white Rolls Royce to join their guests for canapes and a glass or two of fizz overlooking the Mawddach Estuary.
After food, speeches, laughter (and the occasional tear), tables made way for a live band who filled the dancefloor until midnight. It was quite a day.
It’s such a privilege to become part of the family for these special celebrations and we have loved seeing it all come together and giving a helping hand. We choose to host one or two of these big celebrations a year and each one is different and fun. Over the years it’s always fab to welcome the happy couples back for anniversaries – in this case, the bride’s Mum and Dad have already booked to return next year!
We wish Amy and Chris every happiness in their lives together.
If you are interested in hosting your wedding celebration at Graig Wen, please get in touch to discuss ideas as we have a couple of weekend dates available for 2017 in June and September.
