Awesome! The word on everyone’s lips when they experience Surf Snowdonia. Just over an hour north of us amidst the lush greenery of the Conwy Valley is the world’s first inland surf lagoon.
The open air fresh water lagoon is the size of 6 football pitches with a powerful head high wave that peels perfectly for more than 150 metres. It’s quite a spectacle, which anyone can watch for free from the decks outside or through the floor to ceiling glass walls of the funky cafe and bar.
If you want to surf, you need to book a lesson in advance unless you are experienced. When we visited at the end of June all the lessons were booked up until mid July so pre-booking is strongly advised. There’s other activities for those aged 12 years and over such as the adrenalin thrills and spills of the Crash and Splash Lagoon and The Blob (check it out on the Surf Snowdonia web site – it’s hilarious to watch and looks like the most fun way you will ever be catapulted into the water!).
For younger children there is Surfer Sam’s Soft Play Shack on site and Surf Snowdonia offer gorge walking and a canoe safari nearby – great for groups.
