A Badge of Quality
We started welcoming guests to our yurts in Snowdonia, North Wales back in 2008 when glamping wasn’t really a word. These days “glamping” seems to range from luxurious treehouses to basic pods so it can be hard for guests to tell the quality of what they are booking. Visit Wales introduced a Quality Assured Accreditation to give customers confidence that glamping sites have been inspected and meet a range of standards. A Visit Wales Gold award can be given in recognition of exceptional quality and facilities.
Wild Escapes
Here in Snowdonia National Park, it’s incredibly important to us to respect our special location and the natural landscape – our glamping is always going to be a little on the wild side but we wanted to reassure our guests of the quality of what they could expect…
So it was with some trepidation that we invited the Visit Wales Assessor here for the first time this year. Would we make the grade?
Gold Awards for Jones and Empress!
We’re absolutely thrilled that all our glamping accommodation has achieved high scores to achieve the Quality Assured standard. We were surprised and thrilled to receive the Visit Wales Gold Award accolade for Jones the shepherd’s hut and Empress quarry wagon. This is especially rewarding as we designed and built Jones and Empress ourselves.
Here’s what the Assessor had to say:
“Set in a peaceful location within the woods of Snowdonia the site is located above the Mawddach Estuary with breathtaking views. There is very good atmosphere & ambience throughout the site and the grounds are very well maintained and presented. Branding for Graig Wen is excellent, and the website seems to perform well with online booking and useful pre-arrival information including maps of the site and layouts. Touch stay welcome folder is sent to guests prior to arrival and a welcome hamper is provided with a shop available on site with useful facilities and treats for guests.
Overall a very attractive and unique site offering guests tranquil surroundings with good quality throughout.”
“Jones Shepherd’s Hut is beautifully presented and offers a very comfortable accommodation. The Shepherd’s Hut presents a foldable double bed, foldable bunk beds, woodburning stove, table with two benches and a kitchenette with a gas stove, fridge, sink and crockery/utensils. Close to the Shepherd’s hut is a private use compost toilet and shower cubical. Best use of space is presented at the Shepherd’s Hut with built in storage and is adequately lit with the hut itself being off grid. Very good facilities provided and bed linen included for guests. Very good living indoor and outdoor space with their own fire pit and seating areas.
Overall a very attractive Shepherd’s hut offering guests tranquil surroundings with good quality throughout.”
“New in 2021 Empress Quarry Wagon which is located in the camp site. The Quarry Wagon offers a cosy double bed, bunk beds, infrared heater, electric lighting, dining area with two benches, kitchenette which includes; gas stove, sink and crockery/utensils. Very good living indoor and outdoor space with their own fire pit and seating areas. Empress includes it’s own bathroom facilities with an en-suite and shower with heating provided.”
